Third Party Monitoring:
UNDP is a key development partner supporting the Government of Pakistan in achieving its own development objectives as well as the internationally agreed anti-poverty Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). UNDP promotes transformational change by fostering strategic partnerships with national counterparts in the federal, provincial and regional governments, civil society, the private sector and the local and international community. UNDP supports transformational change by providing technical assistance focusing on developing capacity within national and local authorities, providing solutions with strong monitoring and evaluation tools, and delivering programs with maximum efficiency, transparency and accountability.
Crisis Prevention and Recovery:
Building resilience to conflicts and disasters is at the very heart of UNDP's work. UNDP helps countries prevent armed conflict, alleviate the risk and effects of disasters from natural hazards and build back better and stronger when crises happen. When a crisis strikes, UNDP ensures that while the humanitarian response focuses on the immediate lifesaving needs of a population, those responsible also work towards longer-term development objectives.
Environment & Climate Change:
In Partnership with the Ministry of Climate Change and Pakistan Metrological department, Government of Pakistan, the project seeks to develop the human and technical capacity of public institutions & local communities to understand and address immediate glacial lake outburst flood risks in Gilgit & Chitral District. A glacial lake outburst flood is a type of outburst flood that occurs when the dam containing a glacial lake fails.
Democratic Governance:
UNDP ensures inclusive and effective democratic governance by bringing together its ability to advocate, advise, foster impartial spaces for dialogue, achieve consensus and build institutions. UNDP helps governance institutions in countries bring constitutional reforms, organize credible elections, strengthen parliaments and address policy and institutional options for peace, risk-reduction and development through reconciliation, empowerment and inclusion.
Poverty Reduction:
The Project aims at strengthening institutional capacities of public officials for (i) results-based monitoring and evaluation of Poverty Reduction Strategy at federal and provincial levels, (ii) gender responsive planning and budgeting, (iii) Improving pro-poor public resource allocation and spending, (iv) improving contribution of public officials in informed decision making at policy level to make policies more gender responsive and (v) improving the tracking system for pro-poor expenditure to enhance gender responsive resource allocation and planning processes.
